Interpretating Pedigrees and Certifications

On this page I will explain what some of the abbreviations mean that are on a pedigree, below that I have explained how to read OFA and CERF certifications.

GR= Golden Retriever

OFA= Orthopedic Foundation for Animals

CERF= Canine Eye Registry Foundation

AKC= American Kennel Club

UKC= United Kennel Club

CKC= Canadian Kennel Club

NUCH= Norwegian Conformation Champion

NV-(last 2 digits of year) = Norwegian Winner-year title was won

Eng. SH CH. = English Senior Hunter

Nor. = Norway

Bda./Ber.= Bermuda

Can. = Canadian

CGC= Canine Good Citizen (prefix)

TDI= Therapy Dog International (prefix)

TD= Therapy Dog (prefix)

CH= Champion

Obedience Titles

CD= Companion Dog (prefix)

CDX= Companion Dog Excellent (prefix)

Interpretating OFA and CERF numbers

Below I will explain what the numbers and letters mean that are on a Goldens Health Certificate from the OFA and CERF.

OFA Ratings

E = Excellent

G = Good

F = Fair

OFA Hip Number: GR-71705F27F-PI

GR = Golden Retriever

71705 = How many dogs of this breed have been certified for Hip Dysplasia.

F = Fair

27 = age (in months) at the time of x-ray.

F = Female

PI = Permanent Identification

OFA Heart Number: GR-CA03568/27F/C/PI

GR = Golden Retriever

CA = tells you that a Board Certified Cardiologist cleared this dog

03568 = How many dogs of this breed have been certified for Congenital Cardiac Disease

27 = age (in months) at the time of evaluation

F = Female

C/PI = Permanent Identification

OFA Elbow Number: GR-EL04342-PI

GR = Golden Retriever

EL = Elbow

04342 = How many dogs of this breed have been certified for Elbow Dysplasia.

PI = Permanent Identification

OFA Thyroid Number: GR-TH00235/27F-PI

GR = Golden Retriever

TH = Thyroid

00235 = How many dogs of this breed have been certified for Thyroid Disease

F = Female

PI = Permanent Identification

CERF Eye Number: GR-21324/2002--46

GR = Golden Retriever

21324 = Tells you how many dogs of this breed have been certified

2002 = The year the examination was done (this test is annually)

46 = age (in months) at the time they were examined for that year.
